Spring Awakening

I saw the touring company of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening last evening in San Francisco. It is a truly amazing show about teen angst and coming of age and having to deal with very adult issues and pressures but lacking the emotional tools and freedoms of an adult to do so. It is not only an amazing night of theatre, but it is one of those very rare important shows. I highly recommend this show, especially for families with teens to see together. When one has successfully survived one's youth, it's easy to forget how trying those times can be. Adults tend to smile at teen drama, forgetting the seriousness of the emotions involved. Every new generation imagines that they are the first to go through sexual awakening and the pressures of adult expectations. This show just might give parents and teens the courage to ask each other very important questions.

You can learn more about the show including ticket information for NYC and the tour dates on the show's official website:

Photo Shoot: Sweeney Ridge Fog

These photos are from a morning walk last Friday at Sweeney Ridge in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The walk is renowned for it's amazing views of the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Well the vistas were taking a break due to moderately heavy fog. But the fog made for some beautiful photos in its own right.

Photo Shoot: Amir

It's amazing what you can shoot in a really public place -- the UNO City complex (as in United Nations Organization) in Vienna, early on a Sunday morning, when you have a really gutsy model. Hey, the location was his idea! Again, look for the rest of the shoot on my website sometime in the months ahead.

Andreas Bitesnich Summer Workshop

Welcome to my inaugural Posterous post.

I recently had the honor of attending a photography workshop given by Andreas Bitesnich, one of the true greats in the field of fine art nude photography. The workshop took place from Sunday August 3rd through Saturday August 9th at a seminar hotel in the countryside about 45 minutes outside of Vienna Austria. The workshop attracted a wide variety of photographers from talented amateurs to seasoned professionals. It was a really wonderful group of people backed up by a very talented and warm staff, lead by the incomparable Andreas Bitesnich himself.

Over the course of the week, Andreas did demo shoots both in and out of the studio. We had lectures by Datacolor (makers of Spyder) on color calibrated work flow. Then under the expert supervision of Andreas and his expert staff we worked for 2 days with 4 models in and out of the studio. Finally on Friday we made selections from our work, edited them, printed a few (great onsite support from Canon) and prepared a student slide show. All in all, a really great week.

Here are the photos I presented at the student slide show on the last evening:
